More about our special guest speaker, Professor Dean Karlan:

Join us for a discussion with Dean Karlan, Professor of Economics at Yale, and the founder of Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA).  Professor Karlan and IPA are revolutionizing global poverty-fighting efforts by bringing academic rigor to understanding what works to help the world's poor.  What yields higher social returns?  Providing scholarships to girls or focusing on remedial education?  Distributing mosquito nets for free or at a subsidized rate?  Are you more likely to improve social welfare by giving to a microcredit organization or to an organization that deworms children?  IPA helps answer these questions and more in ongoing work across 46 countries (and counting).  In this cozy event, Professor Karlan will describe what we've learned, and how to think about using philanthropy to best change the world over the long term.
