Found Animals Web/App Developer - West LA

Want to spend your summer coding in a pet-friendly office?

Found Animals is a privately-funded nonprofit dedicated to reversing the outcome for the three to four million animals euthanized each year in the United States. Started during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, our organization is led by a team of business and medical professionals working alongside the animal well-being community to achieve one goal: find the big ideas that advance the safety of animals in our homes, our shelters, and everywhere in between. One of our major initiatives is the free nationwide Found Animals Registry, which allows pet owners to provide permanent ID for their pets by registering their pet's microchip number in our database.

Found Animals seeks a programming intern to support our online microchip registry. The intern would work directly with our multi-functional team to expand the scope of our microchip registry user interface (found.org) and make it easier for pet owners to use our free service.

Project areas include:

  • Developing an app for iPhone/Android
  • Creating an iPad kiosk app for use in shelters and pet stores
  • Building a UX for shelters to access data about their adopted pets
Please indicate in your resume the program languages in which you are proficient. Preference will be given to applicants with experience programming in PHP / Drupal and iOS/Android. This is an unpaid internship.

Yale alumn Jessica Price is seeking one very motivated college student to intern with her at the ACLU of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Jessica Price is a Staff Attorney who focuses on litigation in the areas of inmates’ rights and education reform. The work will include developing presentations for non-English speaking parents about their right to interact with school officials, investigation and research into students' right to an equal education under the California Constitution, with a focus on students who speak English as a second language, and research on inmates’ rights to religious accommodations.

Much of the internship will consist of research and writing to assist with litigation in both of these areas. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus but not required. This unpaid internship is for a minimum of 10 weeks. It is an excellent opportunity for self-starters who are interested in community organizing or exposure to litigation as preparation for law school. Skyboat Media Audiobook Productions - Studio City

Skyboat Media seeks a passionate intern for our audiobook production team.

In the past year alone Skyboat has produced Ender's Game Alive: The Full Cast Audioplay, a 7-hour audioplay written by Orson Scott Card, based on his iconic sci-fi classic, and performed by an incredible cast of thirty actors playing over one hundred roles; Report from Nuremberg, written by Harold Burson, a one of a kind recording of original transcripts from AFN news coverage of The Nuremberg Trials; and The Singer and the Song, a memoir by Miriam Therese Winter a.k.a. "The Singing Nun" read by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Janis Ian. There are many, many more where those came from. Feel free to investigate further at www.skyboatmedia.com.

It's too soon for us to say exactly what we'll be working on in Summer 2014, but we can certainly promise that it will be interesting and exciting, that any intern will gain hands-on experience at each step of the process of producing audiobooks: proofing and researching scripts, creating pronunciation keys, casting narrators, using sound equipment, conducting interviews, creating a marketing plan, and other aspects of post-production. On any given day, he or she might work alongside actors, directors, producers, videographers, photographers, editors, publishers, composers, and more, and he or she will most certainly learn how to be a part of a team that works together to create beautiful and artistic work.

Depending on the project, a stipend may be available for this internship.
