Waterfall at Pasadena Playhouse feat. Intimate Reception with Richard Maltby Jr & David Shire
An Epic New Broadway Musical at the Pasadena Playhouse featuring two Yale College Alums. In affiliation with AAAYA. An inter-ivy and MIT alumni event.

Book and Lyrics by Tony Award Winner Richard Maltby Jr. (Yale College)
Music by Academy Award Winner David Shire (Yale College 1959)
Choreographed by Tony Award Nominee Dan Knechtges
Directed by Tak Viravan

WATERFALL is an epic love story, set in Bangkok and Tokyo between the turbulent years of 1933 and 1939, as a monarchy falls in Thailand and Japan is on the brink of war.  A young Thai student falls in love with the American wife of a Thai diplomat, and the story of their forbidden love parallels history as the new democracy of Siam moves into the vortex of the increasingly anti-American Japan.  With a gloriously romantic score, WATERFALL is a modern love story of timeless scale.

Personal Invitation from Richard Maltby:

It's hard to imagine that a show set in Bangkok and Tokyo could have a Yale connection, but this one definitely done does. As some of you know, David Shire and I met at Yale and wrote our first two musicals there. It is a collaboration that has endured (gulp) more than 50 years, and our roots there have become more and more meaningful to us us. The wonderful thing about working in musical theater is that you're a beginner on every show. Every show is different and you have to learn the rules all over again. So in many ways we are still learning those first lessons as if for the first time.david and
I would be delighted if any of you yalies in the Los Angeles area would like to come and see the show at this special performance and stay to meet David and me.
- Richard Maltby
