LA High Table: "Curating Communities of Creativity” with Greg Brandeau

We invite Yale, MIT, and Princeton alums to join us for the Los Angeles High Table, a new every-other-month series aimed at showcasing dynamic speakers in an intimate setting.  We especially welcome established alums in fields relevant to the talk and younger alums in all fields.  This event features a talk by Greg Brandeau on how to create and manage a culture of innovation.

Date: Sunday, September 20th
Time: 1pm – 3:30pm

Location: We are lucky to have this event at the Brentwood home of MIT alumni Uri and Paula Bernstein. The address will be provided the Thursday prior to the event.

Price: $5. We also request you contribute a dish or drink to our potluck. Suggestions below.

Event format: 30 minutes mingling, 60 minute High Table Program featuring Greg Bandeau, 60 minutes networking and discussion post-talk with refreshments.

About the speaker: Greg Brandeau has extensive experience at the intersection of technology and leadership, most notably at Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.  He is a co-author of "Collective Genius: The

Art and Practice of Leading Innovation," a thorough case-study of the leadership practices that allow organizations to consistently innovate.

Brandeau received both his BS and MS from MIT in electrical engineering, and after a stint in the air force, went to Duke for his MBA.  He was hired by Steve Jobs as Director of Operations at NeXT Computing.  In 1996, Jobs asked Brandeau to take a leading role at one of his other ventures – Pixar Animation Studios. Brandeau served as head of the systems department where he was responsible for managing the technology resources required for making cutting edge, computer-animated films.  During his 14 years at Pixar (1996-2000, 2004-2012), Brandeau tackled challenges such as the accidental deletion of an entire movie-in-development and successfully managed the tensions inherent to leading an innovative organization.

Brandeau has served in leadership roles in several other inventive organizations such as biotechnology startup Perlegen Sciences and most recently Maker Media, a young company at the forefront of the do-it-yourself maker movement.
