[Non-YCLA Event] HAMMER READINGS Poetry: Joseph Harrison

Yale alumnus (’79) Joseph Harrison will be doing a reading with us on November 5, 2015. Harrison was a 2009 Guggenheim Fellow and his most recent collection, Shakespeare’s Horse, came out in March of 2015.

“The reader will encounter the sheer joy of a poet gladdened by his own art, alive to the liberties and limits of form and imagination,” noted Anthony Hecht in his introduction to Joseph Harrison’s first book of poems, Someone Else’s Name. The Washington Post named the 2003 collection, published by Waywiser, one of the five best poetry books of the year. Harrison has dazzled readers and garnered critical acclaim ever since. The Baltimore resident is the 2005 recipient of an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His most recent book is Shakespeare’s Horse.

Complimentary coffee and tea served. A book signing will follow the reading.

This series of poetry readings is organized and hosted by Stephen Yenser, poet and professor at UCLA and author of A Boundless Field: American Poetry at Large and Blue Guide.
