Joshua Tree National Park is one of Southern California's desert gems, a must-see.  Join us to see the stark beauty of the open desert, rock formations that look suspiciously like every alien planet in every sci-fi movie ever, strange boulder piles (how did those get stacked?  The answer will surprise you), and of course Joshua Trees.

This will be a 22-mile round-trip hike, with 1,000 feet of elevation gain/loss.  Though our pace will be moderate, this hike is meant for those looking for a rewarding outdoors challenge.

Meet-up time is 8:45am on Saturday, January 30th, 2016.  As Joshua Tree National Park is a 2.5-hour drive from downtown Los Angeles, this means waking up at 6am, and leaving no later than 6:15am.  The drive is long, but the desert beauty is worth it!

HIKE:  Boy Scout Trail from Indian Cove to Willow Hole (11 miles each way).

HIKE DIFFICULTY:  Butt-kicker.  Most of the hike is over flat ground, and the parts with elevation gain are not too steep.  Difficulty rating is on account of the total round-trip mileage.

MEET-UP LOCATION:  8:45am, in the parking lot of the Visitor Center at the address above.  After everyone purchases their park entrance pass, we'll caravan another 10-minute drive to the trailhead.  You will need to leave L.A. by 6:15am.  RSVP at link above for possible car-pool option.

HIKE END-TIME:  This is an all-day hike, aiming to be back at the trailhead parking by 5:15 sunset.  Your expected time back in Los Angeles is around 8pm.

ROCK-CLIMBING:  This is not a rock-climbing trip.  Joshua Tree is known for rock-climbing opportunities, but this hike does not involve rock-climbing.

DOGS:  The park does not permit dogs on this trail.  Dogs are forbidden in almost all areas of Joshua Tree National Park.

RSVP REQUIRED: January 28th
