Inter-Ivy Art Exhibition, Discussion, and Reception
Featuring Yale alum Janna Avner (Y'12). Co-sponsored by the Yale Club of LA, Dartmouth Club of LA, MIT Club of Southern California and the Yale School of Art

Date: Saturday, February 27th
Time: 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Place: CB1 Gallery
1923 S. Santa Fe Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90021
Cost: Free for Everyone

Do you ever wonder why certain pieces of art are more expensive than others? Why some artists are priced in the millions and others, no more than $300, even of the same time period, within the same artistic medium, and with similar technique? Why some artists “made it” while others did not?

If so, join DCLA, the Yale School of Art, and the Yale Club of LA for The Cuatrecasas Discovery: an art historical slideshow presentation and exclusive, inter-ivy talk. Exhibition Director Janna Avner, Yale '12 (daughter of DCLA president emeritus Janine Avner '80) and Curator Peter Hastings Falk, Brown '73 (husband of Laurie Rosenfield '79) will discuss the art career of Gil Cuatrecasas (1935-2004) in relation to contemporary art valuation methodology; followed by Q&A.

Gil Cuatrecasas, Harvard ’57, Yale School of Art ’59 is a newly discovered artist influenced by the 1950s Color Field movement. Come view this extraordinary body of work, learn about the artist's tragic life history, and obtain an understanding of why prices for art can vary dramatically.

The discussion will take place on the final day of the Cuatrecasas art exhibition.

Drinks and light food will be served.

Parking: Street parking on 11th and 15th street, in the lot immediately south of the gallery on Santa Fe, and behind the gallery (in alley).
