Inter-Ivy Talk: Fireside Chat with Seth Dorfman @ Gil's Sanctuary
Featuring MIT alumnus and Princeton graduate alumnus Seth Dorfman ('05 '12), moderated by Janna Avner (Yale alumna, 2012). Co-sponsored by the Yale Club of LA, Dartmouth Club of LA, MIT Club of Southern California.

Images that take your breath away...

Ninety-three million miles from here, on the outermost portion of the sun, a burst of hot matter called plasma is ejected outwards into space.   As the plasma speeds through our solar system at over one million miles per hour, forecasters on Earth struggle to predict what will happen based on limited information.  The stakes: our cell phone, GPS, TV, and other communication satellites; our dreams of solar system exploration; and perhaps, the very future of our society.

Dr. Seth Dorfman is a postdoctoral scientist at UCLA, working to unlock the mysteries of plasma, the fourth state of matter. From protecting our technology and astronauts in space, to semiconductor technology, to fusion energy development, plasma physics enables our modern society and holds important keys to our shared future.  To learn more, check out one of his past appearances here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5bAGMJczmY#t=3m54s

This event will be hosted at Gil's Sanctuary, an art gallery-qua-research space with the director, Janna Avner, who will bring up some unusual facts about art history.

After the lecture will be drinks and live dj.
