Yale LA Day of Service: Various Projects

Join LA Yalies at one of these Yale Day of Service projects on May 11, 2024!

Join Yale LA for our annual Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook restoration day!

In concert with the Nexus Nature Institute of LA, Yale alumni will continue restoring one of the last coastal sage scrub communities in the area, weeding and planting native plants while being educated in the history of coastal biological diversity by park rangers.

All ages are welcome, with free tools and parking provided.

Currently, this event is WAITLIST ONLY — early registrants are encouraged to check their status, as cancellations have occurred.

Join the the RightWay Foundation on May 11th celebrating foster youth at the annual Elevation Awards!

The RightWay Foundation provides foster youth aging out of foster care with the resources they need to build a better tomorrow, with mental health access, supportive housing, and employment and community opportunities.

The annual Elevation Awards Brunch gives young adults from RightWay a moment to celebrate their accomplishments, and on the May 11th Day of Service, Yale volunteers will serve as ushers, assist with setup and breakdown, and help with activities for young children in attendance. Volunteers will also get to enjoy brunch, meet awardees and offer guidance.

Reading to Kids needs you!

Dedicated to inspiring underserved LA school children with a love of reading, Reading to Kids coordinates with elementary schools in downtown Los Angeles where volunteers read aloud to children and create arts and crafts projects about stories. Each child receives a book to take home while another is donated to the school's library.

The next major reading club is on May 11th, the Yale Day of Service, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Registrants can picked a preferred elementary school on the dropdown menu, and then choose Yale University as the selected group on the registration page.

If you are interested in hosting your own Day of Service activity in LA or know an organization looking to host volunteers, please click here or reach out to regional director Marcos Luis (07') here.
